The Smart Button was invented by 11-year-old Joel Williams of Central Texas.
One day while helping his 3-year-old sister put her shoes on, he noticed the difficulties she was having finding the correct shoe for each foot. Joel says this is when he conceived the idea to build a device that will attach to shoes and verbally teach a child left and right direction.
Joel has hopes of becoming a scientist and a writer one day and plans to keep inventing new products in the the future.
The SmartButton was introduced at the 2005 WSA (World Shoe Association) show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The product received great reviews from many companies including Disney, Nickelodeon, LA Footwear and many others.
